Project:

For the construction of the Centre for molecular biosciences at the University of Graz, the largest newly constructed university building in Styria, comprehensive geological/hydrogeological investigations were carried out. In addition to investigations by means of core drillings, pumping and infiltration tests, the geohydraulic effects of the construction project and infiltration measures on the groundwater body and adjacent buildings were simulated in a stationary numerical groundwater model for different groundwater levels and forecasts were made.

To monitor the forecasts, three groundwater gauging stations were equipped with pressure probes and data loggers that were read in regularly. The data obtained was interpreted in a final expert opinion. The Company Geolith Consult OEG undertook the geological support of the construction project.

Services:

  • Support and evaluation of pumping and infiltration tests
  • Development of a hydrogeological working model
  • Calibrating of a stationary numerical groundwater model for various groundwater levels
  • Simulation calculations for the implementation of the building (three basements) in the groundwater body
  • Simulation of planned and alternative infiltration measures
  • On-going client consultation in hydrogeological matters
  • Groundwater monitoring during the construction phase
