Project:

The municipality of Kirchdorf in Tirol taps 3 springs in a ditch northeast of the village for the local water supply. A groundwater source protection zone was designated for these springs per administrative decision. An appeal was filed against this decision, because it is planned to operate a quarry south of the springs, which would affect the groundwater source protection zone.

The main factor for the definition of the protection zone was the delimitation of the source catchment areas. Several expert opinions had already been issued regarding this matter, partly containing contradictory statements. Therefore, the Federal Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry, Environment and Water Management charged Professor Goldbrunner with the task of drafting an expert opinion on the existing statements and on the delimitation of the source catchment area in particular.

Services:

  • Evaluation of existing documents
  • Recording of springs and catchment areas
  • Preparation of a geological/hydrogeological model
  • Assessment of the hazard potential for springs caused by the quarry operation
